Confocal Microscopy
>Core facilities

Beginning in 2001, the departments of Cell Biology and Physiology, Biophysics and Neurosciences joined efforts to have a confocal microscopy unit at Cinvestav, offering services to researchers and students from both departments. This unit has a Leica TCS SP8 AOBS (ACOUSTO-OPTICAL BEAM SPLITTER) DMI6000 confocal microscopy system, which has three lasers. With this microscope you can examine samples stained with antibodies coupled to different fluorochromes, which can vary in excitation and emission wavelengths. The microscope allows the simultaneous observation of different targets (up to eight) by using different fluorophores at high resolution. This confocal system uses second-generation CS2 objectives, making a color correction through all the visual field. The spectral range goes from 400 nm to 1300 nm in wavelengths, encompassing UV, visible and infrared regions of spectrum.

This unit also offers services to researchers from other departments from Cinvestav and other institutions.

People in charge of the confocal microscopy unit:

  • Francisco García Sierra, Ph.D.
  • Jaime Escobar, MSc
